After 18 months of watching my pit mix suffer from “hot spots”, “flea allergy”, and continual licking and scratching trying to help herself after her skin lost hair, and had tiny areas of blood and scabbing, I broke down and bought this to see if it made the difference because it seemed we needed the “numbness” that the product brought on after applying. Yes, it smells medicinal as soon as you open the cap, and I was concerned that it would initially cause a burning over the open would area before it would numb. But PB loved every minute of the ointment application turned into a massage. (Which helps for stress, anxiety, and blood flow/healing). She originally had begun with a half inch area in circumference that was losing hair, minor scabbing and since it was on her back rear area she could easily get to it. After trying many things including antibiotics that the vet gave us, and antifungal Creams, her half inch are over time became at least 7 inches long and about 2 inches wide and was hairless. Her constant And incessant scratching and rubbing her back on the floor drove both dog and us crazy. We tried antibiotic ointments, and essential oils with massage that definitely seemed to help but it was counterproductive with her being able to get back at it with her tongue and teeth when the solution wore off. A come over her head did not work, she is a Ninja and slipped it every time or would hurt herself trying which causes her more trauma than it’s worth. After 72 hours of applying this creme generously once per day and massaging the area and area around it, the red flare ups were gone and hair growing back. She finally stopped throwing herself on the ground trying to soothe herself. No more licking nor scratching it open again. Why had I not heard of this before??? Do yourself a favor. Stop searching for products right now. I’ve already spent so much money trying to help her find comfort. The vet wanted to put her on medication and it didn’t even help let alone the cost. Yes there are underlying causes for hot spots so you need to know why your dog is getting them? In our case, our dog is an anxious dog. And is allergic to fleas. So the least little itch she has she cannot leave alone. She focuses on it and cannot leave it alone which creates the hot spot. I am so thankful I found this product. And of course it is a brand name that has been around for years.
