GG is Hell On Wheels For Organic Drain Clogs
The liquid formulation of Green Gobbler has yet to fail me on a sink clog. If it's hair, grease, oils vegetable matter or whatever, as long as it is organic, GG has chewed through it on the first try using these steps:
1. Don't run water down the drain for a couple hours prior to attempting to clear the clog. We want as little water in the drain as possible aside from the water at the bottom of the trap.
2. Pour one side of the container directly down the drain. If the drain starts back filling while you are pouring, slow down or stop and give it a minute to work it's way down before resuming the pour. Try to keep the liquid in the drain, and not backing up or splashing in the sink bowl.
3. Once the container is empty you need to let it sit. I know the container says 30 minutes, but that's not gonna work. It needs to sit for 2 hours, minimum. I usually do overnight if possible. Do whatever you have to do to keep anyone in your house from running water down the drain, up to and including duct taping a bathroom door shut.
4. The bottle says to flush with "hot water" for 5 minutes. Before starting this operation, make sure you have hot water at the taps. Fill a large container at the sink tap and empty it in another room until the water is running HOT, then turn off the tap.
5. For our initial flush, "hot water" isn't going to cut it. It needs to be boiling or near boiling water. Last time I did a kitchen drain, I filled 2 stock pots on the stove and got them boiling. I slowly poured one after the other down the sink, again pouring directly into the drain hole. The weight of the water is part of what is going to help clear any remaining crud, so we want as much velocity as possible going down the drain. For the bathroom sink I just did, I filled 2 electric kettles, probably 3 liters in total, and did the same pouring operation.
6. Once the last of the boiling water is down the drain, turn hot tap on full blast. The water should be moving down the drain by this point. Let it run for ~5 minutes to fully flush out any remaining solvents.
