I have two large cats and it was becoming necessary to modulate their food intake a little better because they seemed to be getting fatter by the day. I had purchased an automatic food dispenser by another brand, but it failed on multiple levels causing me to return it. I'll detail those issues here and explain how this model overcame them. First, with the other machine (that I returned) it only took a quick press of the manual food dispense button for food to be dispensed. Just from random scratching at the machine, my cats eventually figured out how to feed themselves which rendered it useless. This model overcomes that issue by placing the buttons on top instead of in the front, which is both more convenient for humans to press and less likely for animals to hit accidentally. They also designed this model so that it takes a 2-second press for the food to be dispensed manually, which also avoids the issue of random triggering by the cats. Second, the ratio of height to width on the other model was quite high, meaning that the tower was easier to knock over. In their attempts at getting at the food they knew was inside, my cats would often knock it over, rendering it totally useless. This model is thicker, more stable, heavier (because it holds a good amount of food), and further stabilized by the double-dish setup, making it pretty difficult to knock over. That said, my desperate cats were still able to push it around on the floor and did manage to knock this one over once. Ultimately, I had to come up with the solution shown in the images. I used plastic "hanger strap" that you can find in the plumbing section of any hardware store and that seems to have resolved this issue permanently. Third, with two cats and a single dish, it was obviously problematic to feed them fairly. One tends to be the alpha cat and usually gets first dibs, after which there usually wasn't much left for the other one. This model is one of the only ones I've seen on Amazon with a double-bowl setup and it works flawlessly. They both get fed the same amount at the same time and everything is fair. The only other thing that would have made this model completely perfect would have been smart capabilities so that I could control it remotely from my phone and/or with my voice using Alexa or Google Home.
