Vitamix 5200 vs 5300
I used -- and loved -- my 5200 for the past few years. But I didn't like the fact that it did not fit under the cabinet. I decided to try out the 5300, and there were a number of things I'd like to comment on after reading other reviews here.
1. The wider jar is a happier jar, imo. It's a personal use thing, but I like that the blades seem more accessible to the food I'm blending/chopping/etc. And they are easier to reach for any cleaning beyond the usual Vitamix's after-blend soapy water cleanse.
2. There is less noise than the 5200. Nice touch.
3. As some reviewers have noted, the 5300 may not fit under all cabinets so you do need to measure. Ours does fit & I'm pleased as heck about it.
4. The added second step to turn it on has been criticized by some reviewers. I see the added step as a safety concern and I have no problem with it. In a world of instant everything, pushing one more button -- with a pretty blue light, i might add -- hardly seems a point to quibble when the machine itself is a thing of functional beauty.
5. It performs just as the 5200; I do not see a difference, and I'm making smoothies, nut butters, soups, chopping veggies, etc. Someone mentioned that their KitchenAid does most of the same work. I put away most of my other counter top appliances because the Vitamix does nearly everything I need.
6. Another reviewer was critical of the 5300's tamper, saying it is made cheaper than the 5200's. If by cheaper they mean lighter plastic, yes. That's true. But it's a tamper! It works! It's lighter to hold. And did I mention, it works?
7. Vitamix -- again, no matter what model -- remains a U.S. built machine by workers in Ohio. It isn't shipped to us from China. The fact that it is made by U.S. workers AND is the best blender in the world makes us a Vitamix family for life.
Thanks Vitamix -- we appreciate your awesome product!
