With several cats in the house, I regularly shampoo the carpets. I try to do it every three months, and have found this much easier if I own a carpet cleaner rather than renting one each time. I’ve owned several different units and rented a couple as well, so I have some experience with them. The Bissell ProHeat 2X Premier Full-Size Carpet Cleaner, Blue, 47A23 is the first I’ve had that employs a heat feature to keep the water hot while cleaning. I have to say that I really like the fact that the water doesn’t cool off significantly by the time I spray it on the carpet. This cleaner also has another novel feature – there is only one tank for both clean and dirty water. The tank has a flexible bladder inside where the clean water and solution go. The dirty water is deposited into the reservoir surrounding the bladder. As you spray more areas, the bladder takes less space in the tank, which makes room for more dirty water to be suctioned up. The real advantage to this configuration for me is that only one tank needs to be taken to the sink every time you need to empty and refill – no more toting two tanks each time. Also, the tank seems to be bigger than my old Hoover cleaner, which means less trips to the sink to refill. The Hoover didn’t hold enough liquid to handle the entire living room – I always had to refill halfway through, but the Bissell was able to clean that entire area without refilling. The less I have to handle the tank, the faster this chore goes. Bissell touts 10 rows of cleaning with dual rotating powerbrushes, and having seen the unit, there are indeed some pretty serious looking brushes in it. Having used it, I can attest to the effectiveness of these brushes. I cleaned my carpets with my Hoover cleaner two months prior to using this Bissell model, and thought the Hoover was working well. I was shocked at how much more cat hair the Bissell removed from the carpet even though I had just recently shampooed. After using the Bissell, I am really disappointed in the Hoover. Another feature I really like is that the upholstery hose and wand is stored onboard, staying attached to the machine even when not in use. This may sound like a no-brainer, but I have had several machines that did not do this, and so the hose was stored separately. This is messy and inconvenient. I much prefer the accessories stay attached to the cleaner, like this Bissell model does. Both the carpet cleaner and the upholstery cleaner functions work extremely well. This is one of the best cleaners I have ever used. Bissell recommends only using their brand of cleaning solution with this machine, and this is easy to do. You can find it at many local stores and of course online.
