Updated Review... Dependability Issues... Replaced
Yes it sounds crazy to purchase a litter box for over $400, but this is one of the best purchases I have made in years... My goal in life is to have one cat... but after the death of my parents, my cat heard jumped to four. I was using a large plastic sweater box as a litter pan and scooping it once or twice per day. Now I never touch cat litter and my box is always clean. TRANSITION: They say to gradually introduce the new litter robot to cats and place it side by side with the old box... well at my house we went cold turkey... out with the old and in with the new. Aside from a couple accidents right in front of the box it was no problem. After about a week everyone was well adjusted to it. I think now the cats are happier because they love a clean box. When I had the old box they would always come running after I cleaned it so they could be the first in the clean litter. Now it is perfectly clean every time they go. BAGS: I have four cats. I change the bag every third day. Litter Robot bags can be pricey and grocery store bags are just a bit to small. I have found ProForce 10 gallon commercial can liners work perfectly. A box of 1000 can liners is only about $25 and will last me well over a year. SOUND: I have the litter robot in my laundry room. It does make a bit of noise, but I hardly notice it. When the apartment is quiet and I hear the motor running it makes me happy because I am getting my box cleaned with no effort. If it was in my bedroom and I was sleeping it would probably disturb me, but luckily for those in that situation the box can be put in sleep mode so as not to disturb you. CLEANING: Aside from changing the bags the only cleaning I have done in the past three months is to cycle the box and wipe the inside with a towel sprayed with cleaner. Super easy. There are instructions to take the globe apart for a good washing, but so far that has not been necessary for me. IN CONCLUSION: Get over the price and buy it. You will love it! ************************ Updated July 2016 I am seriously thinking about going back to my old school litter box. The litter Robot is a dream when it works correctly. The problem is it has been acting up frequently. I have made numerous calls to customer service and although they are very nice my problem is never permanently solved. I have issues with the globe failing to rotate, rotating around and not rotating back, rotating around in a circle, clicking and grinding on the track... I have four cats and it becomes a pretty stinky situation fast with accidents all over because the globe quickly fills up. At this moment the box is shut down with a yellow flashing light. I am unable to reset it or get it to work. I have to cycle the box by manually pushing the cycle button, once the clumps have dumped the box remains inverted so I have to lift the globe off and reset it in the base. I am waiting for a call back from Litter Robot and looking for alternatives.... Update January 2017.... After getting to know the nice people at Litter-Robot customer service all too well, they finally decided to replace my original unit. I honestly was not expecting them to do this, but they went above and beyond and sent a new unit. We shipped the old one back in the box the new one came in. All prepaid via Fedex. It cost us nothing. Since the new one came it has been working perfectly and I am in love with my Litter-Robot again. If you have problems call you. Most of the time you have to leave a message and they will call you back, but they are super helpful and very friendly!
