Great little griddle.
This Lodge cast iron griddle has been a great addition to my cast iron cookware. Right out of the box I heated it up to a nice high heat on my gas stove to kill any germs. Lowered the temp to a low med heat a light coating of virgin olive oil and made pancakes. I was bit skeptical about cooking on it before doing a few more seasoning sessions but to my surprise they didn't stick at all. Next came the hashbrowns test.I rinsed with good hot water patted dry with a tea towel then put it back on the stove and heated it until it just barely began to smoke. Removed it from the stovetop and used Crisco vegetable shortening all over it, liberally on both sides. Then I wiped it down very well with a tea towel (flour sack) and repeated this process two more times for a total of 3. I then let it cool completely down. Ready for the hash browns test. I heated the griddle over med heat until good and hot (not smoking) smeared real butter over the surface then added onion and green peppers. No sticking whatsoever, threw on some thawed broken up tater tots (they make great hashbrowns) turned my flame down to med low and let sit for 12 min w/o touching, turned them over with no sticking at all. Let sit another 10 mins and had beautiful crispy potatoes O'Brien with nothing sticking. Let the pan cool a little while then ran it under hot water using a bristled brush for cast iron to clean, very easy. Next came the real test, over easy eggs. Heated the griddle over med low heat letting it get good and hot then added virgin olive oil let it get hot then did three jumbo eggs. They turned beautifully. I did put an egg over each burner and one in the center. The one in the center did take a bit longer to cook but not too much longer. All in all it is great griddle. I haven't done bacon because the only real flaw is the outer lip around the griddle is way too low for bacon on the stovetop. I personally wouldn't do more than 4 slices at a time and I think that is pushing it. I can see a big runny greasy mess on top of the stove with more than 4 slices. On a grill or campfire no problem though. Just remember to heat it properly before cooking and clean, season and store properly between uses and it will last forever. Oh one last tip. Never run cold water onto a very hot cast iron anything. It more than likelywill cause it to fracture or crack. Hope this helps someone in their decision. Happy cooking. :-)
