Large Clear Screen - Good Sound - Multimedia Ready
I didn't think I would be purchasing another portable DVD player again with all the digital streaming options available, however I travel a good deal and find the internet speeds at many hotels to be lacking making streaming almost impossible, or irritating to say the least.
Plus my work and personal laptops do not have DVD drives, and many times I need to have my computers running and working when watching a movie. So, I decided to buy a portable DVD/Mutimedia player.
This model by Funcher stood out mainly because of the larger 15.6" screen. The 1280 x 800 the screen does not rival high-end tablets, but it is high definition and well suited for watching movies. I also liked that it supports so many file formats: CD, DVD, DVD + R(-R), DVD + RW(-RW), VCD, SVCD-R(RW), CD-R(RW). And multi-media files VOB, AVI, MPEG, MP3, WMA, JPEG using either the USB input or the SD card slot.
I knew this DVD/Mutimedia player was going to be big, but was still a little surprised at the size. It pretty much looks like a 15" laptop without a keyboard. Funcher kept the weight to a minimum by using plastic for the case and lid. Both of which have a little flex to them, but feel solid enough. I like that they used a brushed finish on the top lid, beside looking like brushed aluminum the texture will help keep fingerprints to a minimum.
After charging the DVD/Mutimedia player and installing 2 AA batteries in the remote I spent a minute or so in the set-up menus and verified all viewing and sound option were correct, then I dove into the first movie. I have to say I am pleased the picture and sound quality. The screen is bright, crisp, and clear with viewing angles are generous and the screen rotates up and down and back and forth easily using a single center hinge.
I was also surprised to see very little LED light bleeding around the edges of the screen. I can see just a little on the very bottom left of the screen on dark scenes, but not enough to be distracting.
The stereo sound from the DVD player is also very acceptable. Even across a noisy kitchen I can still watch and hear a movie with the volume in the midrange setting.
The DVD player is controlled easily using just the buttons on the DVD player or with the remote. The menus and options are well laid out and are easy to navigate and select. The buttons on the small remote are not backlit and are a little cluttered however. If you plan on using this DVD player in complete darkness you may want to have a light handy to see the buttons, or you could always opt for a backlit universal remote.
One of the features I am impressed with is after turning the DVD/Mutimedia player off and then back on the DVD will begin playing where you left off.
I have also used this DVD player to listen to CDs. Obviously the sound from this DVD player cannot match that of a full blown stereo system, but it still sounds pretty good. I can also turn off the LCD while playing music to extend the battery life.
I have just started using this DVD/Multimedia player but so far I am very pleased with it and look forward to taking this player with me on the road. (A 12-volt charger is included.) I also look forward to checking out some of the multimedia capabilities. Once I do so I will update this review.
