Mute Your Urban Rooster
*READ ME IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ROOSTER* Okay guys, I didn’t want an urban rooster, but one of my pullets didn’t end up being a girl and now Ruth is Rutherford. He was crowing at 3:30-4:00 am every morning and I can’t have a rooster in the city limits. Kudos to this company for talking me into trying a collar, because I called them before ordering and spoke to a very helpful representative. They do make a high quality wide collar, which I believe is part of the key to making it work. The problem for me was keeping the right tension in the collar with provided Velcro strips. The hens were pecking at it and and it seemed to loosen and come undone to the point where Rutherford could serenade the neighborhood every morning. I finally got one of the cheaper strap Velcro collars and put it over this one, making sure both collars were fitted close, but not too snug on the neck. Rutherford is now completely mute, but otherwise comfortable. I think this particular collar is great and made well, but If you have a persistently loud roo, I would recommend trying this doubled-up method.
