Not many choices for a typewriter these days!!
I looked a Brother, Nakajima and restored vintage typewriters. The vintage units are super expensive and the providers have real attitude problems. The Brother unit did not have great reviews or reported good reliability. The Nakajima WPT-150 seemed a better choice. Nakajima has been the OEM manufacturer for 6-7 famous brand name typewriter models (Adler, Canon, Olympia, Swintec, Royal, Olivetti, Sears) that have since been discontinued in a shrinking market. So Nakajima seemed like the best bet. The WPT-150 turned out to meet our needs quite nicely. It does everything that a basic typewriter is supposed to do and more. And at about $135 with shipping, how much am I risking?. We use it for labels, 3x5 cards, forms and the other typical typewriter chores. So it will get very light duty over time. I spoke with the service folks in NC to ask some questions about sources and part numbers for ribbons and printwheels. I was very impressed with their friendliness and technical knowledge. After a couple days of using the typewriter, we went ahead and bought 6 ribbons (#XC001), a package of correction tapes (#LO001) and an Orator 10 printwheel.
