After 10 years of service my pen size oto/ophthalmic set gave up (left the battery in). Learned my lesson. I needed a more study and compact set to do home physicals. This set is it. The handle takes 2 “C” batteries. It has more of a grip to it, but is light weight. The specula that come with the kit have narrow openings. I like at least a 3mm. Using it on multiple clients I need the disposable specula not the reusable ones. I like that the kit has 2 back up bulbs. The only draw back is that it does not have adjustable magnification. However you can flip the magnifier away from the head if you needed to gain access to the ear canal. Donna G.
