Great Oven
Back Story... I bought very old house that came with an almost 50 year old 40 Inch Crown Range/double oven that I need to replace. The range works but one oven will not light and the other only does 550 degrees (not great for just about anything).
I had a very competent Oyster toaster oven that had regular analog timer. Of course with an analog timer nothing can be precisely cooked at a specific temperature for specific amount of time. Invariably something I was cooking needed another 5 to 10 minutes to be good and then the worst thing would happen randomly the analog timer would fail to shut the oven off leaving it on and of course when I returned much later I would find ruined food.
So I set about looking for Digital Toaster Oven, one that would be virtually the only oven in the house for now. I looked at Many, but eventually decided between the Breville 800XL and Kitchen Aid KCO273SS. Note There are many things of import. What do you want to cook. Will it fit, etc. Not all manufactures give you the inside dimensions. You will find ones that fit things that are inside are around 11x11, around 12x12 and around 13x13. There are also various height clearances (not of interest to me but I am sure for most). There is also a wide range of prices from around $100 to $250 without getting into silly money or truly Professional equipment.
The Kitchen Aid Dimensions are below:
* * 18 1/4"W x 15 3/4"D x 11 1/2"H
* * Interior: 12 3/4"W x 12 1/2" D x 7 1/2"H floor to ceiling (6 1/2"H door)
So far I really like the Oven. It heats up quickly and so far is doing a great job. It has preset for all kinds of foods. And by default the Oven returns to your last settings for temp and time. Note too if you go with another oven and you need to Broil make sure it really has a Broil rack position. The Kitchenaid does have 3 positions and the real Broil position has cut my cooking time by 2/3 around 16 minutes instead of 50 minutes for one item I make (I'm sure all know but a broil rack position brings the item within a few inches of the heating elements).
I did find one trick, perhaps I missed in it the manual. By default after setting the Temp and Cook time the Oven does not start the Time countdown, it says pre-heating, then when the Oven reaches the desired temp it beeps so you can put your food in and then click start. ** Busy parents and others do not need to work this way unless your baking something. Generally one can compensate setting a timer for a few minutes longer while the Oven reaches the set temp. In these cases merely pop your food in Dial in Temp and Time and then Start button and the counter will begin and turn off the oven when appropriate.
