Works okay for a smaller room
We don't have central heat, we use space heaters throughout our house. When we're sleeping, we don't heat the master bedroom at all, we just use lots of blankets. Hence, when I go to take my morning shower, the master bath is like a meat locker. I tried a small tabletop space heater, which worked well but took up too much room on my sink. So I searched Amazon for a wall mount heater and found this. This unit advertises itself as being adequate for a 200 square foot room. We had considered putting these throughout the house... until I tried it out. It works pretty well in my 40 square foot bathroom, but I can't see it heating a 200 square foot room. It's only 400 watts. The space heaters in my modestly sized living room are 1500 watts, and I'm using three of them. The spare bedrooms are 100 square feet, and they each use a single 1500 watt space heater. All that being said, while I won't be putting these throughout the house, I'm very happy with it in the bathroom. It takes a while to heat up, but I love that it is out off the way. I had to run a new electrical outlet to the location I wanted to install it. I put in a two-gang outlet, and paired it with a timer switch (ASIN B079NHNB9Y). When I am getting ready to shower, I hit the 60 minute button and forget about it. I used wiremold for the cord for a nice finished look. There is a warning printed on the panel. In another review someone cautioned against trying to remove that. I'm weirdly fond of professionally printed misspellings, so I don't mind it. (Watch out for high "temparatures.") It's paintable, so you can paint over that warning. The listing for this item seems to change over time. When I bought mine, there was an option to purchase it with or without the thermostat switch. I purchased mine with. The without option is not there at the time of writing this review. I've also noticed a number of reviewers talking about rigging up some sort of heat reflective shield behind the heater. Mine came with such a shield. Many reviewers mention the stink. When first opening the box, the chemical smell is overwhelming. I would recommend storing this in the garage or on a back porch for a couple of weeks. I ran my heater non-stop for two days with the bathroom fan on before the stink was reduced to a tolerable level. I've noticed a lot of reviewers mentioning cracks. The instructions are very specific about leaving the mounting posts loose, making sure the panel mounts freely onto the posts without force, then tightening down the posts. They sell a "safety cover" for this heater separately, so if mine ever does crack, I will just buy that cover for looks. So mostly, I am happy with this purchase. I took off one star due to the 200 square foot claim, and it doesn't heat quite as fast as I would like. The instructions were pretty well written and easy to follow. In the end I'm glad I bought it. Update 3/13/2023 Here we are, 4 years later, and I still love this heater. Never cracked. Looks good and works good.
