Percale is NOT a dirty word!
These days, the advertising world has made us feel that "percale" is a dirty word and anything less than an 800 thread count means cheap and scratchy. You never see a sheet described in commercials as anything other than " silky and sateen". But guess what? I HATE those those flimsy, thin and slippery sheets. I loved the percale sheets of my childhood. They were cool and crisp when you slipped between them and held up forever! Percale is simply a term for how the threads are woven and according to the package insert this makes the fabric have a more event, stronger quality. Also, modern sheets have a ton of chemicals added to make them wrinkle free -- these don't. In searching for the old fashioned sheets I wanted I came across some percale 200 thread count sheets that fit the bill for $146.00! Then I found these. I've had them a week and they are exactly what I wanted : substantial feeling (thick) with that crisp feel. Also, some reviews said they had some horrid smell -- NOT at all. I put them on the bed straight from the package. Love them.
