Love it! Here are some tips for better gummies:
This thing is so much fun! The bears are much bigger than your "average bear". The fish and worms are the size of commercial ones. The gummies come out of the molds with relatively few issues. Sometimes the bear's legs stick a little, but a short tug will get them out, no problem. Resist the urge to oil or coat the molds with anything before using. They will work perfectly as they are! if you were to coat them, it would just mess up the nice finish they have, and disguise the cute details, like the fish's scales or the worm's stripes and eyes. Tips: The booklet states that 1 cup will fill all the gummy cavities. While this might be true, I find the gummies look much better if you overfill each mold just a little, without breaking the surface tension. Once it's filled to the top, add additional mixture, drop by drop, until the mixture is ABOVE the line of the mold (again, don't break the surface tension!!!) . This will take more like 1 1/2 cups, but will result in much nicer looking gummies. Gummies look much more presentable with convex rather than concave backs. The bears require special attention to fill. Fill by the ears first, trying NOT to get any mixture AROUND the area where the bear shaped depression is. If you have a dropper, use it to fill the ear areas first, then pour in the rest of the mixture. If you just dump the mixture into the face or body area, it won't usually fill the ear areas. First time I tried to use a toothpick to move the mixture around to the ears, broke the surface tension, and got gummy junk all over the top of the mold. The included recipes are OK. If you want REALLY sour gummies, add an entire packet of drink mix, not just half, and once they are firm and have been brought back to room temperature, roll them in a combination of half sugar, half "True Lemon" or "True Lime" powder. it will look and taste like a real, professional sour gummy! Allow your gummies to "cure" at room temperature, uncovered, for at least 24 hours if you want true gummy texture, and if you don't want them to melt or form condensation that will mess up the outside. Do this AFTER rolling them in sugar or sour powder if you are going to do so. The nice, clear kind of colors will only come out well with gummies made with flavored gelatin. Drink mixes will turn them opaque. Another reason to roll them in sour powder (see above). I still have not figured out how to make the multicolored worms. Anyone got a tip for that? And, in case you plan on using it without reading the booklet ( I see you there! ) remember that you cannot get water on or in the heating unit. According to the booklet, this thing is like a Gremlin. And you probably shouldn't feed it after midnight.
