I always make sure I have some around
This is great stuff! I've been using it for more than 5 years to do basic repairs with wood. A few tips to those that gave bad reviews: 1. It is an epoxy and as such the mixing ratio must be correct -- cut it with a knife instead of pinching it. Only cut as much as you'll use within 5-10 minutes because it will become less pliable over time. 2. Mix it thoroughly. Usually you're done kneading in about 2 minutes or less. Should not have any colored streaks but all one color. Apply immediately and stop touching/straining it once it is in the right spot. 3. Wait until the cure time (1 hour) before allowing it to be under high stress. 4. Keep the unused portion in it's original container and sealed as best you can. 5. If using old product that has sat for a while and feels hard: put in the oven to warm (maybe 180°F) for about 15 minutes. It will soften and mix nicely. My only gripes (that I live with it because I've found nothing better): 1. Kind of expensive to use freely. For instance, I could completely reform parts or fill big gaps if it weren't so expensive. 2. Does not take stain -- kind of waterproof in fact. It will paint like wood but stain doesn't soak in. 3. Shelf life isn't that great. I'd buy loads of it just to make sure I always have some but it doesn't store well past about 2 years. Kwikwood is best suited for wood. There are other products (versions for steel and plastic for example) that work much better for general repairs.
