Actual paying customer review ...
Although there are a number of reviews listed on Amazon for this product, as I started my research I noticed that every single one were from people that received the product for for free. This made me hesitate to splurge on such an expensive printer without anyone actually paying for it providing what their thoughts were. Fast forward a couple weeks of intense research (I get sucked in when I am buying anything technical) and Amazon had a deal that brought the price down so I jumped on it. In parallel, I submitted a question to the Amazon community and someone replied saying they purchased it as well. Putting those things together I finally bought it and just unboxed to set it up. Taking it out was easy enough, it comes with two of every ink color, power cord, additional maintenance box, and of course the printer. The box was nicely packaged without significant waste after removing everything from it. The only this I wish they provided was a smaller box to hold the extra ink. After taking off all the tape (which was the hardest part) I followed the included instructions and was off an running fairly quickly. Filling up the ink was simple as pie, and the paper tray allows you to put in tow different types of paper (I put in letter and 4x6 glossy). It immediately recognized it and spent about 30 minutes going through the ink warm up and alignment. Just a warning, the whole initialization does take up about 1/5 of the ink - but the bottles aren't empty so you can fill it back up when its all done. The printer does come with a CD for the drivers and software, but who has a CD-ROM drive anymore?!?! I downloaded the software from epson while connecting it to my Wi-Fi. Just a warning, if you have 5GHz only you will not be able to leverage wifi, it can only see 2.4GHz networks. The software was pain free EXCEPT for the EpsonNET Setup. I tried everything I could, and I am technical, and the Epson software would not find the printer on the network. Despite not being able to complete the setup, the drivers and software were loaded and I was able to easily find the printers on my Mac and print a test page. I was also able to print from my phone and the registration was provided by a printed QR code that I quickly completed on my phone. Overall the setup was easy, the prints look good for a home printer, the pictures look decent and I am hoping the ink last as long as they say it will. I will update this after a couple months to provide feedback on when I have to refill. I am a low at home printer, so am hoping this actually last as long as they say it does. The software setup is frustrating, especially since if you google the issue it tells you to "check network and try again" but since I don't think I need EpsonNet for any functionality - I am good to go. If you are looking for a printer that has easy refill tanks, comes with enough for hopefully two years, and prints wirelessly photos and documents, then this one is for you. If you are on the edge, just look up how much those printer ink cartridges cost .. a $70 printer needs $70 worth of ink every 6 months ... this is much better way to go and much better for the environment.
