Better Than Antihistamines!
I've developed something called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, aka histamine intolerance. I'd never had allergies in my life, other than a mold sensitivity. But I've had Post Lyme Disease Syndrome for over 20 years, a condition that makes your immune system act whacky, including making your body intolerant to histamine. First I developed a hoarse throat and chronic cough but never connected it to allergies until the itching all over my body started. That's when I started trying various antihistamines, with limited success. So I talked to my doctor and he recommended Quercetin. He specifically suggested Thorne Research as a safe and reputable brand. So I ordered it from Amazon, honestly not really believing it would help. My doctor is really good though, so I thought I should give it a shot. And WOW! Within 15-20 minutes of taking a pill, the itching stopped. It also greatly improved my hoarseness and cough. My doc recommends taking it 3 times a day, but I tend to take it twice a day or when the itching starts because I usually forget the midday dose. I wish I could remember though, because I probably wouldn't have any itching episodes if I took it the recommended 3x a day. Anyway, if you've got allergies or MCAS, I really recommend giving this a try. It's a simple plant pigment (flavanol) which has got to be so much healthier than the various antihistamines on the market, which can have some pretty serious side effects. I have a friend who was prescribed daily antihistamines and ended up dying from not being able to breathe because her throat swelled up. Despite receiving CPR, she died before the ambulance got there, probably because her airway was blocked. She told me before she died that one of the listed, rarer side effects of the antihistamine she was taking, is throat swelling, which she was experiencing and even went to the ER for. So she was already suspicious of what was causing her symptoms. I just wish I'd known about Quercetin before she died needlessly.
