Great cheap fan - IF you know the trick!
We ended up liking the first 16" Lasko 2521 Oscillating Stand Fan we bought because it was inexpensive, very lightweight, extremely quiet, easy to clean, adjustable (both height and tilt), and reasonably powerful (considering). So when the second one we ordered failed to push out much air, we were seriously disappointed. We wondered if we overestimated the original fan's performance, but no, it still worked great. Being curious (and stubborn) old coots, we took the new fan apart just to see what we could find. Nothing seemed out of order, but once the fan was reassembled, it became much more powerful - just like the first one! Since then we have discovered that on this second fan, the plastic parts that screw down to hold the pieces together tend to drift loose - and very quickly. Every week or two, we have to take the thing apart (which is easy enough) and tighten the same two screw-on parts (one behind the blades, one in front). We have never tested to see if tightening only one part would do the job. We just do them both, and afterwards, the fan perks right up. We've never had to do this on the first fan we purchased. That first fan, also from Amazon, was in retail packaging (a blue two-piece box with product images and description). The second one was in "frustration free packaging" (a plain corrugated cardboard box with the pieces wrapped in plastic). Whether this has anything to do with the problem, we can't know. We wanted to let people know, understanding that buyers might be tempted to give up and toss the thing if it acts like our second one does and they don't know how to fix the problem.
