What a wonderful machine! We just used it for the first time, so I cannot write about how long this machine lasts .However, I can say that using it on a very heavily soiled rug, it cleaned it up...just beautifully! In fact, a friend glowed, she said the rug looked better than when the professional cleaners had come! (And it sure is much less expensive!) I had been concerned, for health reasons, about the rug not becoming too wet so as not to mold or mildew. I thought to myself: Touch up the soiled areas lightly, let them dry, then go back and do them again later, keep at it. Well this proved to be unnecessary, as I found that when I stopped spraying the water, and just let the machine sit there on the spot, that it soaked up so much water from the rug, that the rug was only just barely damp at all! (It is, however, a time consuming process). Leave the heater on, open a few windows for ventilation, and you have got it made! The only thing that I find a drawback in this machine, agreeing with other reviewers, is that one does have to change the water quite frequently and it does only have enough water to treat small patches of a room. So be it. For the price, it is a trade-off I am willing to accept. I am just really happy with the performance of this wonderful machine, and while it does make some noise, it is not too horribly noisy either. A great value for the price! In case the machine breaks down, the $5 warranty extension for two years, is just very well worth it. I do not work for Amazon, Bissell and have no special interests or ties. I am just, so far, a very happy customer!
