I have researched racks for a month and ended up buying this rack. It is well made and works well. Here are some honest answers for you: #1. yes, you will want to use caulking at the seems to keep it from rusting in the future. I wrapped the caulking with friction tape (rubber) so it looks nice. #2. yes, it make wind noise. its a giant waffle on your roof- what do you expect? How much wind noise? it will double the amount of road noise in your car at 75 mph. #3. Making a bigger wind screen for the front will not help. do not waste your time. take it from me. I speant 2 weekends building different models and nothing worked better than the stock one. #4. Use lock-tight when screwing the knobs down when you are installing to keep them from getting loose. #5. The rack is made so well that I can probably carry more that you roof bars can so don't load the rack up so much that you break your roof bars- take it from me.
