I was hesitant to use a shock mat for my dog. But after trying countless other training tools and behavioral modification methods, he literally destroyed the back of the front door due to separation anxiety. I'm not sure if the first shock rewired him somehow, but now he knows that the mat means I'm coming back and instead of howling and scraping the paint off the back of the door and hurting himself (see photo of crazy), he just takes a nap on his dog bed! If the mat is not out, he goes berserk. Mat out = nap time. Who knew? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
