If you are either seeking to convert to Judaism or simply want to know what is REALLY in the Jewish scriptures (but don't know Hebrew) this is the bible for you to start out with. There is no attempt to "prove Jesus" within its text (because of course there isn't; it's Jewish), and by virtue of this, it is an honest translation. I will give you an example of the difference in translations: PSALM 2:12 Christian/Messianic bible: "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him." [KJV, other Christian translations will be similar] Jewish Study Bible: v. 11: Serve the LORD in awe; tremble with fright, 12. pay homage in good faith, lest He be angered, and your way be doomed in the mere flash of His anger. Happy are all who take refuge in HIm. The Jewish Study Bible contains all of the Torah, Nevi'im, and Kethuvim: Genesis all the way through 2 Chronicles, with insightful commentary and footnotes throughout. In addition, there is an Essay section at the back which delves into topics such as: *War and Peace in the Bible *Concepts of Purity in the Bible *Midrash and Jewish Exegesis As for appeal and readability, I really like the typesetting; it's very easy on the eyes. The cover, by the way, is really nice looking; it's a thick laminate bound to the cover, rather than a dust jacket over a rag cover. Really sleek and modern!
