After being diagnosed with oral thrush in October 2013, I have gone through about a quart of nystatin with no results. Cutting out all sugar, eating yogurt and taking probiotics offered no relief. Thrush is painful, embarrassing and seemingly impossible to get rid of. Sometimes my tongue would look clear, and then the next morning the white patches would reappear as severely as ever. I read about gentian violet a while ago, but when I googled it, all I found were awful photos of infants with purple-black toothless mouths and horror stories from mothers who said the indelible dye wrecked their entire house. I languished with thrush for another year before I decided to give anything else a try and ordered a bottle off Amazon. I brushed my teeth and put on Chapstick, laid an old towel across the sink and dipped a q-tip in the bottle. "Painting" the tongue is exactly what you do, and there was no mess or staining other than my tongue, which remained purple for about 12 hours (I ate and drank normally). Two days later, the thrush is gone after the single application of gentian violet and I couldn't be happier. In all this time, my doctor never once mentioned this easy and effective remedy, instead prescribing medication that never worked. I would 100% recommend this product for the treatment of oral thrush.
