Read the instructions.
After reading a lot of the low rated reviews there a few things I thought should be mentioned. I recommend cleaning any sponge before the first use. It will get rid of packaging smells and any lasting dye that hasn’t washed out prior to packaging. (That covers like 30% of the negative reviews) This sponge is NOT like a beauty blender. I don’t understand why people use this sponge and expect it to work like a beauty blender. It works best with liquid makeup when slightly damp. It doesn’t sheer out the product like a damp beauty blender, but rather builds the product similar to a brush. I find the best results (when using it for foundation) by getting it wet, then squeezing into a towel to keep it soft but pretty dry; dab the product (foundation) onto your skin with a finger first, and blend it out with the sponge. That method works great for under eye concealer too. Another method is to use it dry to apply powders: blush, highlight, contour powder, under eye setting powder.... actually, any setting powder. It doesn’t move foundation or concealer when using it to apply powder on top AS LONG AS YOU USE A LIGHT HAND. If your banging the sponge into your face, it’s not going to blend well or look good. I can do almost all of my makeup using only this sponge. I clean it after every use, causing it to be very easy to clean with only a sponge soap and warm water. (That covers like 60% of the negative reviews) Lastly, if you follow the very clear instructions on how to clean the sponge, it won’t break or rip easily. You should really clean the sponge after/before every use. You shouldn’t use anything to clean it other than soap and water. Like that little pink silicon thing that comes with a beauty blender solid, Don’t use that. You’ll tear up the soft stuff on your sponge. Product doesn’t really get fully absorbed into the sponge like a beauty blender so you don’t need to beat the little guy up to clean it. (And that covers the last 10% of the negative reviews). Hope this helps. It’s a good versatile sponge and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to BRUSHES. Just clarifying, it’s not a beauty blender. Don’t expect it to be one.
