It works if you know how to use a basic and simplistic tool
All the negative reviews I've seen are from people who have no clue as to what they're doing. You can't just stick it in water and call it broken. It works through electric impulses and with no resistance (i.e. soil) to those impulses you are going to have an insufficient reading. If you don't place it deep enough into the soil, you're going to have the same improper reading. I mean this thing isn't rocket science. I'm honestly baffled that so many people are having problems figuring out something so simple. It isn't broken, it isn't faulty, and it doesn't give horrible readings. It's the person operating the device, not the device in itself.
Here is how to use the meter properly.
-Submerge at least half of the meter into the soil. You may or may not choose to read 4 different points however for better accuracy of soil moisture I would suggest it.
-Water with half of the amount that you would typically use. Wait a few minutes to let soil drain down to the bottom. Then test the soil once more. If soil is still too dry continue to the next step
-Take the remaining amount of water and continue watering with 1/4 of the remaining amount. Wait a few minutes and then check the levels. Continue this until you're soil has reached the proper levels.
