Hot Wheels! 300 miles in... Buy them!
I read every review, took heed to a few suggestions found in this thread, and I love my new wheel set. I run these on the continental grand prix 4000. I have had them for about three weeks and I love them! I always get compliments while on rides with my bicycle club. 61 reviews 4.8/5 stars was worth the plunge. In what follows is my experience. 1. THE INSTALLATION: Take them to the Local Bike Shop to install. Some of you can do this yourself. I wanted their opinion of the set so I took mine in. They installed them and the wheels were "TRUE" out if the box as they should be. 2. THE TUBES: Ditch the extenders and buy new tubes with the extended valve. This LBC suggestion didn't feel like an up sale to me. They are more reliable than the extenders. I like reliable. You may need to use electrical tape on the valve to keep it from rattling, but use that little nut that holds the valve in place from your new tube and you are golden. See photo. 3. THE BREAKS: Ditch the stock pads and get new ones. Expensive isn't always better bit I trust Swiss stop carbon breaks 4. THE WEIGHT: They are super light! My bike weighs with saddle bag, lights, pump and cell mount and aero bars a whopping 22lbs ... I bought it at 21lbs without anything on it with these things it was for sure 22lbs or 23lbs. I think my (aluminum) bike lost a pound. 5. THE SOUND: Most, if not all, carbon wheels seem to make the "cicada" sound. I think it's cool, but YOUR GROUP WILL KNOW WHEN YOU COAST. Lol I heard you can reduce it with oil but I'm not interested 4. THE COMPLIMENTS.. You will get "nice bike/wheels at least once a week. The guys at the bike shop want you to get those revolv's or zipps but I'm telling you they were impressed with these and didn't want to show it. The young Mechanic slipped me the thumbs up though. 5. THE FEEL: It's a more comfortable, smoother ride and faster at or above 17 mph. It's like when you get four new tires on your car and you feel more connected to the road after an alignment. That is if you know how to balance your weight and tyre pressure. 6. LEARNING CURVE: the crosswind takes getting used to and you have to brake further in advance especially in the rain. Pads need checking more often and resurfacing if they squeel. This part is easy even for a novice. YouTube will rescue you. That's all folks hopes this helped! Enjoy those wheels!
