Works great for hanging feeders too
Over the years I've purchased several bird feeders that I really like, the only problem is the squirrels also like them. Instead of going out and spending the money to buy all new "squirrel proof feeders" with mixed reviews on how effective the really were I decided to try a couple of these baffles. I know it's cheesy but these baffles really baffle squirrels.
I think that the baffles are meant for feeders either sitting on or hanging from poles. All of my feeders are hanging from tree branches and chain, but they still work great. I set the baffle over my feeder, with it resting on the top dome and use an "S" hook to connect the feeder through the baffle hole to the chain (see my picture in the customer product photos).
The squirrels try over and over again, with their back paw on the chain to lean over and get to the feeder, but the diameter is wide enough that they just can't do it without letting go of the chain and falling back to the ground. For someone like me, who has been known to beat on my windows and yell profanities or go running through the yard attempting to scare them off the feeder, watching the squirrels try over and over to unsuccessfully get at the feeder has been a nice way to spend my Saturday morning on the porch with a cup of coffee. I feel like this review makes me sound nuts, but if you are shopping for this product you probably know exactly what I mean.
Bird seed isn't cheap, and the savings in a week or two of keeping those tree rodents out of your food more than pays for this baffle. I have two of them and will be back to buy two more in the near future.
