Honestly I'm not a huge fan of memory foam so this fit the bill. I'm actually surprised how comfortable it is. It makes my hard Ikea mattress tolerable. I will say it's a little less than 3 inches, and when you lay on it, it does compress over time. When you first get it, it totally feels like a marshmallow. After a bit of use it settles in a feels more like a pillow top, which I like. I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until I tried to take a nap on my boyfriend's mattress (same type as mine) and I just couldn't get comfortable. If you're debating buying it I say go for it!
