Great Game. Terrible Battle.net mechanics. Terrible Management Decisions.
I'm going with many here. The game is great, but they are ruining it with the decisions they are making with [...] If they change this, I'll change my review. But for now, don't buy this game and save your wallet.
A few things:
1 - When you start the game you have to create a profile and type a name. If you typed incorrectly you can never change your name again. You can't delete and that's how users online will see you. Ooooppsss sorry, buy another copy of SC 2 if you want to have a new name.
Update: One-time free name change was implemented by blizzard. Although it solves one of the most cried out issues it still a great limitation.
2 - For the same reason as 1, you can't create more than a character. So if you ever want to reset your stats to start over after you get good on the game, forget it. You can't create another character, you can't delete your current. So you can't share the game with your little brother, you'll be stuck with your name/stats forever. You can't have a practice plus competition character.
3 - You're region locked. For some, this might be a minor issue. For me it's a big issue. I bought American version of the game because I didn't want a stupid translated version. Well, bad for me I won't be able to play on Brazilian servers because I'm locked up on American servers, FOREVER!!! This also implies that you will almost never meet people from around the world.
Update: Region linking have been implemented since end of July 2011, so NA and LA servers have been linked together, solving my problem, but you're still region locked. It still might be an issue for other players.
4 - No chat rooms. There are not chat rooms, forget about having a chat, meeting new people, joining guilds as the old fashioned way. Socializing never been more difficult.
Update: Chat rooms were created, but they've been given such little thought that they are barely used. Still needs some work.
5 - No LAN play, forget about that. They want your money, they want to be greedy so expect to have lots of measures to make you feel terrible just to try getting more money.
6 - Be prepared for a terrible customer service. Blizzard no longer is what it's used to be. Customer satisfactions is not top priority anymore. Is this because activision aquired Blizzard? Maybe, the fact is, Blizzard is going downhill when it comes to treat it's customers. Respect is not the word for the moment.
Update: 7 - One more issue is that there is no clan support. With the limitation of name change you can't change your name to have your clan acronym as a workaround for this feature lacking.
If you want to know how the game is, there are plenty of reviews. I'm here just to warn you before you get the chance to be really upset with the system.
