Good top, bad bottom
I generally like this product but it has a major flaw.
The product is pretty easy to put on, and it does keep
your feet warm in cold weather. The insulating effect
is superior (and more comfortable, too) to inserting
chemical toe warmers into your boot. There's also a
nice side benefit, that is, the glove shields the boot
buckles and top surface from snow and grime.
Be sure to get the right size for your ski boot, because
if you get, say, the Medium for a small boot, the boot
glove will appear to fit but the front edge will slip
down onto the lip of the boot. That makes it hard to
clip into your bindings.
The major flaw is that the cloth securing strap that
goes underneath the boot wears out too quickly. This
strap is positioned about under the ball of your foot,
and thus makes direct contact with the ground when you
walk in your boots. For a purely recreational skier
who stays mostly clipped in, the strap may hold up for
a sufficient time. I'm a Ski Patroller, and I have to
do a fair amount of walking while wearing my boots. In
my case, the straps have nearly severed from wear after
only two days of use. The bottom strap needs to be
made of a more durable material, and/or moved back towards
the heel where it could rest in the hollow of the bottom
of the boot.
I added a photo which shows the front bottom strap made
as installed by the manufacturer (left side of photo) , comparing
it to a rubber strap I replaced it with (right side of photo). The
original strap is some sort of cloth and my replacement strap
is a rubber material made by a company called TOPY. I've
found that the TOPY rubber strap is virtually impervious to
weather and wear. If you decide to do a similar modification,
be aware that I also increased the length from 4" to 4.5".
