★☆☆☆☆
This is a terrible book.
I am a big believer in suspension of disbelief, but this book calls for suspension of common sense and logic. The president and his small inner circle(I.C.) create a plan to save all life on earth and to spend billions of dollars to do this. They base this plan on information given to them by an 8th grade science teacher who says the diverted comet will miss earth by 100 miles. What, the government has no real scientists that can be trusted? Then the I.C. decides that someone needs to be murdered. So they find a hit man and he drives a truck into the victim's car, running him off the road. Then the hit man drives away, just assuming the victim is dead. Also, from a quick look on the internet,it seems a nuclear bomb will not explode due to a conventional explosion. And finally, they send one man to divert this comet(the most important task in the history of the world) and they send him alone? In this 4 1/2 year journey,he can have a heart attack or go insane from being basically in solitary confinement.
