Why they get dim - I have bought 8 of these now
But don't be misconfused, I do think its a wonderful idea and they do look great. Problem is, they are a landscape light that is not watertight. How could that be you ask? I do think they were supposed to be, and the price structure reflects this. I like them so much, that after they quit working (3 months or so) I just buy new ones. I have talked to the manufacture, and it seems they are quite aware of the problem, and have even changed the design in an attempt to fix the problem. The problem as it is: moisture gets inside and gets between a hologram piece of tape, and the glass cover that a laser shines thru. Really simple to fix, just dry it out, silicone it up and put it back together. Problem is, the tape needs to be replaced as you can't wipe it off without scratching it. This scratching happens even with the softest lens tissue.
I have recently just bought another three, because I am having a fourth of July party. I did call the manufacture and simply asked for them to send me the hologram tape that is hot glued to the inside. They said no. I said I have six. All I need is the tape? She said there policy was that I had to send the whole light back to them at my cost. But I pleaded for them to just put the pieces of tape in an envelope... I would be more than happy to pay for them, She said she would ask her boss. And the big boss said no!
So what to do... Seems more cost effective to just buy some new ones and seal them up before leaving them out in the yard. Not so hard.... So that what I did. Also let me add that now they have added a warning sticker over one of they screws that says if you tamper with it, by removing the screw, the warranty is invalid.
Anyway, if you like the light more than you will miss your money and you know full well that there is no back end service, then this is the light for you. I do love amazon, but the failure is always past the 30 day warranty period. Like I said, generally three months is what you get. What you will see, is that the light gets dimmer. This is because of the moisture between the tape and the glass. If you have one, don't wipe it. Carefully remove it and use "air in a can to blow it off, and then dry the glass, hot glue it back on and seal it up.
