The worst MC *spoilers*
I have never left a review on any site in my entire life. But this book infuriated me so much that I could not help myself. I usually skim the best reviews and the worst to try and keep myself from wasting any time on a book but I didn’t do that with this book and severely regret it. Eli is the only reason I actually finished this book and all it did was fill with me such irritation I could not get passed it. Eli caters to Pennys every need day in and day out and is treated like absolute garbage. Just a few ridiculous things to mention. Penny claims to be a dedicated hockey fan but the first time Eli gets in a fight on the ice she yells at him and treats him like he’s incapable of any self control and not to mention the entire fight was TO DEFEND HER. She basically tells him that he’s probably a violent person off the ice too and she can’t trust him because of that MEANWHILE HER DAD AND BROTHER PLAY(ED) THIS SPORT PROFESSIONALLY & she literally works for a hockey team. 🙄 A supposed “friend” of hers made gross comments about her and he snapped which her brother also did the same night. About 95% in to the book she also goes on to having dinner with said “friend” (even though her friend tells her that it’s wrong and spiteful) and having him pick her up from Eli’s apartment and still goes after Eli begs her not to. Yeah thats technically their apartment but that’s been Eli’s home before her and it felt disgusting and disrespectful to not only have the audacity to go to the dinner but to have him show up to Eli’s home. The worst MC I’ve ever read. Her and her friend berate him for not doing anything for her birthday when literally chapters before they decided to not inform Eli of her birthday at all. (All of this was for revenge on him respecting Paceys wishes to not pursue any romantic relationship and just try to coparent. side note: once again another way they completely throw it in Eli’s face that he isn’t good enough) They chastised him for making her cry on her birthday that he didn’t even know about. It’s ridiculous and Eli just takes it and caters to her once again while begging for forgiveness. Eli has been completely open about his abandonment issues and she goes on to abandon him at the cabin because she’s so immature. He even goes on to tell her that he has abandonment issues so for her to just up and leave is making him anxious and she lies about reasoning to leave as well as only telling herself hmm didn’t think of that. LIKE HOW DO YOU “LOVE” THIS PERSON AND YET HIS MENTAL HEALTH NEVER CROSSES YOUR MIND?? Eli has also disclosed that he’s never really felt love since his mom passed away and she then decides to do things out of spite because he hadn’t said the words to her even though the entire book is Eli showing her how much he cares. She blames so much of her ridiculousness on her pregnancy but she’s honestly just immature and has no growth, she just gets worse as the book goes on and all I could think is how much better Eli deserves. To top it off EVERYONE treats Eli like he’s in the wrong all of the time. Penny can do absolutely no wrong. They all supposedly care for Eli and feel bad for his childhood yet take every opportunity to make him feel like he’s going to do something wrong or that he already has. Claiming that her actions are excused because she said how she felt. Once again this is a person who has not received love or felt capable of being loved who just learned he’ll be a dad and is now in relationship and caring for someone for the very first time. Eli is completely honest about his turmoil and navigating his feelings but is tore down each time. If I could rate this book zero stars I most likely would just because of how the author tries to vilify Eli when truthfully he deserved so much better this entire book. I cannot even fathom how this book got so many high ratings compared to the authors other amazing books.
