THIS PRODUCT HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED FOR THE WORSE!! Notice the "NEW MORE SUSTAINABLE" at the top of the label for 2013 -- they have COMPLETELY redone this formerly wonderful product, even the ingredient list has changed substantially and not for the better (it still contains some of the same stuff, but the first listed ingredients are new and the order of ingredients has changed). I've listed the old and new ingredients at the end of the review for comparison. Let me say, I really loved the old version of this product: just like the other reviewers say, it used to smell like fresh orange juice or a freshly cut orange, and it cleansed really well! I've used it for probably 8 years or so, and finally ran out of my stockpile, so I bought a new bottle yesterday. And I will (sadly) be returning it PROMPTLY! "Why?" you say? First off, the smell is really off-putting, nothing at all like the fresh orange scent it used to have. I actually washed my face with hand soap to take away the smell after trying to ignore it for 10 minutes! I didn't even want it on my hands -- the smell is now a harsh fake lemon/orange dishwashing detergent scent (and not even that good). I guess Avalon decided one day "Hey, it doesn't actually SAY orange in the product title, just Vitamin C in a bright orange bottle, but hey, no one will notice that it now smells like fake lemon dish detergent, it's close enough..." It's ironic that orange peel oil was added, and it hardly smells like orange anymore, which tells you how much of those first ingredients they added! Before it had orange extract at the end of the list, but it smelled exactly like oranges. But lemon peel oil is now up there at 10th on the list, which wasn't even in the product before, only lemon bioflavonoids (lemon extract), which is why it probably smells like lemon floor cleaner now. And if that weren't bad enough, it also left what feels like a slimy, greasy residue on my face, which is the second reason I washed it off with something else. I formerly used this product precisely because I have oily skin and it cleansed well, and why would I want my skin to be greasy AFTER I wash it?! The first ingredients are now aloe leaf juice, water, decyl glucoside, sorbitol, coco-glucoside, and xantham gum, which probably accounts for the slimy residue it left behind. The former product had none of those ingredients, btw, except for the aloe, which was about ninth on the list, after the herbal extracts. First ingredients used to be lavender, chamomile, white tea, and arnica extracts. It was probably cheaper to put them further down the list after these new losers (the extracts are still there, but further down). This product isn't even similar to the former one except that the bottle is the same. Did Avalon even bother testing this horrible "improved" product with existing satisfied customers? It was NOTHING like this before -- it had great cleansing properties, it made your skin feel great and had a wonderful fresh oranges scent before, obviously enough for me to buy massive quantities and happily use it daily. I think I would have used it for the rest of my life if they hadn't changed it. "More Sustainable" means NOTHING if the product is screwed up. And this one is. Now I have to try and find another cleanser that is sulfate- and paraben-free, and smells good. What a shame!
