If you don't need their cloud, buy the "perpetual" backup license. Otherwise, your use of Acronis will end at one (1) year.
Before you purchase Acronis 2018 BACKUP (or for that matter their 2017 BACKUP) realize that your purchase is for a one year (ONE) "subscription" only. It is NOT a perpetual license or subscription to use this backup software into infinity, or however long you choose to use it. Nor, does it provide you with uploading capability to the Acronis CLOUD or access to your cloud data once your subscription expires. Your Cloud data will evaporate (hopefully) once your subscription ends. IOW, Once your subscription ends; your use of your Acronis BACKUP or with their Cloud program beyond that point ends. Period.
Therefore, my very, very strong recommendation (if you choose to go with Acronis) is to opt initially to purchase the perpetual license which is good forever (presumably as long as Acronis does business). Translation, for the price of using Acronis BACKUP for two (2) years, go perpetual for $50.
Capability wise? Very nice backup program to your internal or to your external hard drive with plenty of bells and whistles.It usually takes about 2 hours to backup about 500 gigs to an external HD depending of course on several variables(fulll backup or incremental backup). (Faster than WD's backup for the same identical external hard drive.) Some new features, like the "ransom ware" feature, are redundant for most serious PC users.
Customer support? I have found the "forum" of USA English speaking subscribers relatively helpful and prompt in their replies. Oftentimes, their help is much more beneficial than the Acronis customer support who can have language problems. If you have a problem, start with the forums first. Avoid the hassle of going through customer support unless no one answers your questions on any of the forums..
Cloud Performance? Forget signing up for their cloud unless you have at least a 30 MBPs connection which normally provides six(6) MBPs upload speed continuously. Otherwise, it will take days (literally) to upload something on the order of 500 gigs. Beyond the critical issue of upload speed, Remember, any cloud is susceptible to being breached. Think more than twice before uploading to ANY cloud confidential information.
