but I obviously need to become better educated on tape thickness
Full disclosure: I have no understanding whatsoever of the various thicknesses available in the world of packing tape. I assumed that the combination of a recognized brand (Scotch) and their decision to label this product as "Heavy Duty" would result in packing tape that met MY definition of "Heavy Duty." I was wrong. I see the positive reviews from other customers and realize that my review may be the result of me being poorly informed.
With this being said, this tape is thin, making it VERY difficult to pick up an edge when you start a roll and even more difficult if you make the mistake of allowing the leading edge to become stuck back on the roll. I'm sure this is not technically accurate, but this packing tape FEELS to be the same thickness as the "Scotch tape" used to secure wrapping paper on gifts. If you have ever lost the leading edge on a roll of that, you have experienced what I experienced with this product.
This product will get by, but I obviously need to become better educated on tape thickness. What I wanted was the material that, with one pass, will secure the bottom of a cardboard box well enough to mail a gift or return a purchase of reasonable weight. More specifically, I wanted to duplicate the type of tape that I have previously purchased at the U-Haul store for securing packing boxes when moving. I see now that Scotch offers "Industrial Strength/Commercial Grade" packing tape. Maybe that's what I'm searching for.
