beyond terrible: characters are terrible and the science is worse
I think that this is the next-to-worst movie I have seen in my ~60 years of moviegoing.
The plot is awful. Long and boring, with absurd characters doing absurd and generally unmotivated things.
But the science is beyond awful. Just a few randomly selected idiocies (some spoilers, some not):
The gravity on the moon is not 1g.
You cannot beam a destructive signal from Neptune to Earth.
You cannot use the blast wave from a nuclear explosion to accelerate a spacecraft to ~0.01c.
You cannot jump through the rings of a gas giant, and arrive miraculously at your spacecraft on the other side.
You cannot use a random piece of metal as a shield while going through a pile of space debris.
You cannot fly from Neptune to Earth and come out exactly where you intend.
You cannot propel a spacecraft without reaction mass.
You cannot fall from low earth orbit and not burn up in the atmosphere.
It's terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I wish I could get my two hours back.
