Major Glitch in the latest Firmware for iOS device users
Oh Orbi... you had so much potential. I purchased this product because I needed better wifi coverage in my house. One main router didn't push out a strong enough signal to all rooms and the boosters just never seemed to work. I did a ton of research and the Orbi was one of the highest rated mesh networking systems out there.
Finally after many frustrating dropped signals and buffered tv shows I bit the bullet and bought the Orbi system. Upon install, it was instantly amazing. Coverage throughout the house was incredible, fast and most importantly, reliable....UNTIL, they pushed out a firmware update. It was about 2 weeks after purchasing the product that all of a sudden none of my iOS devices were keeping a consistent connections. The AppleTV's were literally useless, my iPad, iPhone and MBP also were receiving intermittent signals.
I thought this was something on Apple's end until I started reading the forums on Netgear and realized that this is a major, widespread issue and one that Netgear is not solving with a significant amount of urgency. Netgear is completely aware of the issue and they know the problem is on their end. They have some beta software out that is only available for the RB50 system (the 5000sf coverage), which unfortunately, was not the one I had.
Ultimately after several weeks of completely intermitant wifi coverage for many of my devices and NO connection with my AppleTV's (which is the only source of television in my house) we had to return the system.
The concept is great but the execution needs major work. Hopefully they get it figured out in the near future. For now, it's back to the old router.. I think I'm going to try Google's mesh system next. I really wish the Netgear one worked!
