Summary: Shady Linksys is selling refurbished units as new. This problem is not limited to Amazon's stock. I bought another from Best Buy and they have the same problem. Look at my pictures before you buy. Full story: At first I decided to have 4 nodes to cover my 3-level home. So I bought 2 boxes of the 2 pack. First impression was good. Good packaging, nice looking unit, easy to setup. Everything was fine, until I tried to setup the 4th node. The unit does not turn on. So one of the two boxes is going back and I ordered a replacement. Next day the replacement box came. I opened it and found something is not right. 1. The units do not have front and bottom protective film. (Not very alarming yet) 2. The power bricks are dirty with sticky residue and were clearly used previously. At this point I thought someone screwed Amazon by ordering new and returning old one. So I ordered another replacement. It was in the morning so the 2nd replacement was able to came on the same day. I opened it and found same things - no protective films and dirty power bricks. This box has one more problem - one node has French on the labels (Canadian version?) while all others have only English on them. At this point I thought there're problems with Amazon's stock so I returned all the "refurbished" ones. The 2 nodes from the first box were working fine but I still needed more wifi coverage so I decided to go to Best Buy to buy yet another box. I opened the box from Best Buy and found yet the same thing as the 3rd and 4th box from Amazon. Now I believe there is something going on with Linksys. I found that there are some subtle differences between the new boxes and the refurbished boxes. I see that shady Linksys is intentionally doing this to try to make more money. They have lost trust in me and I am returning all the velop units and I am going to ditch all Linksys prodcuts I already have.
