Pet Resistant, Child Friendly, Leaks Badly
Each side is approx. 7.5 gallons capacity. We are a family of 4+ and we don't produce a lot of garbage so this is a good size for us. We empty both trash and recycle every 4-5 days with this can.
While I would not call this can "pet proof", it certainly qualifies as pet "resistant" if you have garbage rummagers in your home. However, if this happens to be a real concern for you, the "steel bar" model dual can by simple human would probably be a better match. If I had to choose again, I would probably go with that one for this reason only.
This is a slim design, though not as clean (lines) as I would like. When it comes to garbage cans, I prefer smooth surfaces and as few nooks and crannies as possible. This one is heavy on the nooks and crannies, especially on the underside of the lid. It takes some extra work to keep this clean (compared to the steel trash we previously had).
The one thing I would say needs serious improvement is the compartment design on the garbage side. If you throw away wet stuff (we do) and the bags leak (they do), then the garbage goo leaks into all the nooks and crannies of the base and eventually makes it's way out onto your floor. Basically, the only thing between your wet garbage and the floor is one measly thin garbage bag and a whole lot of nooks and crannies to clean out. With our previous steel can, there was a removable bucket container that held the bag. This was helpful in two regards. 1) Leaks are contained and easily cleaned by simply wiping out the bucket. 2) Really heavy loads could be carried out with the support of the bucket container, thus reducing risk of ripped bag/ spilled garbage.
Pedal function is smooth and easy (even our 2 year old uses it easily). Lid closure is silent and soft.
Because of the leaking issues, this isn't a great fit for our home, but it would be great for homes that throw away mostly dry stuff.
Thanks for reading. I hope this review is helpful!
