Big disappointment: really wanted to make this work, but it just doesn't on a round bowl
Disclaimer: this review is for the version for round toilets only, i.e., S300-RW Swash 300 Round Advanced Bidet Toilet Seat. I suspect that the elongated version will not have a similar issue. But read on... After a trip to Asia, I got totally hooked on electronic water cleansing toilets or "bidets". What a marvel of civilization I thought, and could not wait to get back and order one for our house. So I went for the Brondell S300-RW, based on the overall very favorable reviews and good appearance. Last Sunday was spent installing a GFC power outlet behind the toilet, and today the S300 arrived. The whole family was all excited :) Appearance of materials, fit, finish and craftmanship are fantastic ... made in S Korea after all ... they do have some excperience with these products. 4 Stars for that! Installation instructions were also very clear and simple, installed after 30 minutes. 1 Star for that. Everything seemed to fit .... well ... almost everything. To my big surprise, I found that the rim of the toilet bowl is about 1 1/2" INSIDE of the rim of the seat. I took some pictures to illustrate. This not only makes the remaining opening rather small for adults, but interferes with certain parts of the male half of the population. I very much wanted it to work, even tried it once, but NO WAY was this usable! This unfortunately rendered our fantastic high-tec seat unusable for me. Minus 2 Stars for that (since it still works for the female half of the population and small boys LOL) What I think is the problem is that the rear part of the seat just builds too deep. It touches the tank and pushes the whole seat too far forwardby, by about 1.5". The distance between the seat mounting holes in the bowl and the front rim of the bowl is pretty standard across manufacturers, or else standard seats would not work. Hence the gap between the holes and the tank becomes really critical. My estimate is that the distance between the toilet tank and the toilet seat mounting holes would have to be 3" to make the S300-RW work. Mine are 1.5-1.75" away from the tank. This seems pretty normal compared to other toilets. 3" would look very strange indeed with a regular seat. Unfortunately, Brondell does not mention anywhere I could find on Amazon, their website, or in their literature that this dimension is critical for the seat to work properly! Minus one Star for this, hence 2 Star rating in total. I hope the effort I put into this review can help others to avoid the same disappointment and waste of time and money.
