Terrible lines on all images (see picture)
Bottom Line Up Front: Good features. Good text printing quality. Just don't expect a gray-scale image to look nice. (harsh lines on all images - see picture) First off, I was very excited to find this printer. I needed to replace my aging inkjet and I was sick of buying expensive ink cartridges that never seemed to last. This printer had it all. I needed a dependable printer with duplex printing and a scanner. I wanted WiFi and Air Print. I didn't need color, so a laser printer was the obvious choice. I got a great deal and this printer had outstanding reviews everywhere I look I had issues with the wireless setup, but I don't fault the printer. My anti-virus / network protection blocked my printer and had to do some research to make it work. It wasn't simple, but I figured it out. No other setup issues. After a couple of days, I was a big fan of this printer... that is, until I printed something that wasn't text. Anything I printed with an image (or anything not text) came out poorly. The images are saturated with heavy gray-scale lines horizontally across the page when viewed in portrait. I went to Brother's FAQ page and the recommendation for my issue was to clean the drum and replace the toner, but they were only days old. Assuming my printer must be faulty, I initiated an exchange with Amazon. Simple and easy, as always with Amazon. I'm on my 2nd now and the lines are even worse than before. I know this isn't a photo printer, and I don't expect to print pictures for display with this printer, but I'm disappointed in the print quality. I expected more from a modern compact laser printer. What good is 1200 dpi if it looks like this? (Picture attached) I plan to reach out to Brother's by phone before returning this 2nd one, and will update my review following. _______________________________ Update 23 March 2015: I spoke with customer service from Brother. The representative did not understand the problem I was having, and after a short hold, she told me that it wasn't a photo printer and had me check some settings. My settings were all correct. She apologized, then explained again that it isn't a "photo" printer. I explained that the printer does this on any gray-scale image (ie. anything except text). It fell on deaf ears. Again, I'm not printing studio portraits with this thing. Average day-to-day printing is more than just text though and I'm disappointed I have to accept such harsh lines.
