Just don't do it.
I bought this last week for my son's birthday, as he was having a space-birthday party and is an outer space enthusiast. So many things wrong. Package arrived damaged, though the unit itself looked okay. However, when I attempted to put batteries in, found the screw was already stripped (so very obviously a return from someone else). The button to turn it on is poorly made....does not stop at each of the 3 settings, rather you have to maneuver it slowly to try to get it just right (between projector, stars and off). The rotating starts themselves are cool and project well, but the rotating mechanism makes a noise. At first it was soft-ish...my sons were fine with it, said it sounded 'like crickets' the first night. The second night though my husband, I, the baby, and both dogs were awakened at 4 AM to a horrible LOUD screeching from across the house (sounded like a loud washing machine on spin cycle, but very high frequency) - finally localized it to this in my son's bedroom. Took an hour to get everyone back to sleep once I shut the unit off. Now it makes that same screeching whenever turned on (mind you, it's been used TWICE). Other cons....it's batteries only....and since there is no auto-off it will stay on all night until you turn it off in the morning (I'm guessing they would need to be replaced weekly at that usage). The planet cartridges are neat in theory, but they project one stationary planet at a time on the ceiling, and you manually spin it to the next one....my son was bored quickly. Can't return this fast enough.
