★★☆☆☆
Silly, cheesy and not worth the money
Written in 1993, the book is very long, almost 500 pages. Each scene is dragged out. The language is cutesy (everything is "wee" or "dreamy"), the plot is cheesy and saccharine ("she grinned, then giggled, then hugged her arms and closed her dreamy eyes"). Every time she sneezes, she creates what's on her mind - it's like a really bad Disney movie.
The choice and repetition of words are off putting : giggle occurs 22 times, squeal/squeak 9 times, dreamy 11 times, "oh my goodness" 26 times, wee 73 times, chew 26 times (chewing lips or hair).
I would say the book is written for 6 year olds except for the sex. The book started well enough with a bit of humor but quickly lost its appeal for me. I know the author wants to create a heroine who is adorable but in my opinion, she is incompetent, and silly to boot. I am really tired of her "oh my goodness" - maybe it's cute in 1993 for toddlers but just not for me. Inept, obtuse, childish and self-pitying heroines are not my cup of tea.
The author tried to meld Disneyesque characters and dialog with sexy romance and social commentary but in a way that just didn't work. It would have been better if she did away with all the inane cutesy language.
