I purchased the ARC-14S at the end of March 2012 but did not have a chance to set it up until the first week in June. We have a 12'x18' (216 sq. ft.)family room that I wanted to cool down quickly and efficiently so I thought that this size unit would be perfect. After reading the instructions and watching a video on the set-up I plugged the A/C in, set the thermostate to (68) deg., sat back and waited to enjoy the comfort. The room began at (80) deg. and three hours later the room temp. finally lowered to (78) deg. I contacted Whynter directley and was instructed to try only venting the Exhaust Tube out the window and see if it helped. Another three hours later the room still maintained a constant (78) deg. I again contacted Whynter and they insisted that as long as the unit was blowing out hot air and the unit was blowing cool air there was nothing they could do. They more less told me good luck and try going back to the site that I purchased the ARC-14S from to see if I could get a refund. I contacted PAC USA from whom I purchased the unit and told me that because it had been over (15) days since I purchased the unit there was nothing that they could do for me. I then went and purchased a 12,000 BTU window A/C and it cools our family room down to (68) deg. in less than (15) minutes. What an expensive three lessons I have learned. First, never buy a Whynter product again. Secondly, never buy another product from PAC USA. Third lesson, never be swayed totally by the high consumer reviews and lean more toward the poor reviews because most likely they are the most accurate.
