Comfortable, but NOT insulated!
First off, this sleeping pad is super comfortable. It inflates to almost four inches thick, so even laying on your side your hip won't hit the ground. It's wide enough for me, a stomach sleeper, to feel secure and not like I might fall off. That's about all that I like about this item. For the issues; The built in pump. It does work, but you have to get an airtight seal on the valve when you're pushing down or the air will just leak out. I've found that the best way to do this is to kneel next to the pad and basically pretend like you're doing CPR. It takes a few minutes to inflate, but it does work once you get the hang of it. Don't inflate it fully for a more comfortable experience. My biggest problem, however, is that this pad is NOT insulated. The seller claims and R-value of 4, which should make this pad suitable for three season use (not four season like they claim). Unfortunately there is NO WAY this pad has an R-value of anything near 4. I would put it at 1.5 tops. I took this pad out for a test run on a single night camping trip with an overnight low of 52°F. Any pad with an R-value of 4 should keep you nice and warm at this temp. I brought out my 40°F sleeping bag with a fleece liner to use on it, a combination I've used before with my backpacking pad (a true R-value of 4.4). I climbed into my bags and onto the pad, and within a minute every part of me that was on the pad was cold. I was warm within my bag, but my stomach was chilly. At this point it was still about 60°F outside, which is not cold at all. In my bag I was wearing a wool base layer on top and bottom, with an extra fleece sweatshirt, wool socks, and a wool beanie. Luckily I brought my backpacking pad as a backup, and as soon as I switched to that I was warm the rest of the night. If you're looking for a cheap, fairly compact spare bed for your home, or if you only camp in the summer, this might work for you. Unfortunately for me, I don't see myself being able to use this for camping if the overnight temp is below 70°F, so I don't think I'll be able to use it again.
