This product generates lead dust. The lead test swab turned BRIGHT red, instantly, which I believe usually indicates a pretty high lead content. (I use lead test swabs on all kinds of stuff, and usually I only see this kind of result on something like solder. Often the test will be slow/light pink - yeah, not here!) I tested it, because I noticed white paint dust around the pin, and my two little kids like playing with the peddles. They're not allowed to, but they break into that room sometimes and that's the first thing they go for! Ugh. To be clear, I swabbed the area around the movable safety pin, which you slide in and out to fold or unfold the bike. There was both white paint dust, and silver-colored metal dust/residue in that area - not sure which tested positive lead and I suppose it doesn't really matter, since both were generating dust. (By the way, you can't see the white paint dust in the picture, since I'd already wiped it up as part of testing. There was quite a lot, and I know I'd wiped down the bike just a month or two ago.) This bike has a CE sticker on it - which is a health and safety designation. Yeah, I guess not so much. I know the seat has a Prop 65 sticker, but I wasn't too worried about that, since bike seat foam almost always comes with a Prop 65 warning. Super upset about this bike! We've had it in our house for 3+ years. How lame!
