High end Bose flops in low end component debut!
A low priced audio component from high end audiophile provider!!
Setup :- optical cable connector is push in and snapped cover leaving debris inside. Ten minutes to connect due to poor hinge design lacking even corner point hinges.
Universal controller setup a nightmare. For cable source multiple codes need entry repeatedly. Even manual states codes may need to be entered 30 times repeatedly!!. Still cannot get Samsung TV to power on/off or Samsung blue-ray to work. Basic stuff rendered tortuous.
Sound quality :- as delivered, extremely tinny sound to jarring extremeties. Pathetic high end frequency response. If I could scope it, I bet I would see severe waveform clipping at even 15K hertz. Upper midrange around 4kHz sounds boosted - borderline listening fatigue.
Ran my music repertoire - Last Waltz CD, Coltrane, Dark Side of Moon, BBKing, Ravi Shankar, Nina Simone and Aretha. All sounded flat - used to listening on my Klipsch Horns so a bit demanding. But the sound is ugly at times.
Controller has only bass button - no treble!!. Reducing bass has no audible effect. Increaing bass seems to merely mitigate treble - not boost sub 250Hz frequencies. South Indian drum beats - miridangam to be specific where jackfruit made drums are beaten with fingers and part of my culture sounded muffled and lacked vibrant clarity.
Cynic in me wants to say Bose sourced Chinese designed/made/assembled component and affixed its label to it for wider US market penetration. But am sure Bose management with its Indian founder's ethos has ethics.
Conclusion :- This component sounds as good as my Bose am/fm radio, alarm , clock display system and priced as much.
Defintely not high end audio. Even among its equivalenly priced peers, it disappoints in alll sound aspects. My Samsung soundbar is infinitely superior.
