Didn't work for me
I know lots of folks rave about this stuff for stopping feather picking, but it didn't work with my chickens. I have a small flock of 5 hens, one of whom is completely neurotic. She started by pulling out her own feathers, then she started going after the others. And unfortunately, once she started feather picking the others started doing it as well. I bought this hoping it would convince them to stop, but no luck. They definitely hate the stuff. One little taste and they have tantrums - shaking their heads, wiping their beaks in the dirt, etc. But it didn't deter them in the slightest. I don't know - maybe my chickens are just exceptionally stupid, but this actually made them peck at each other MORE. It's almost like they were determined to clean every last bit of the "nasty" stuff off their feathers. I gave it two stars because it is at least easy to use. Unlike Blu-Kote (which is a purple liquid that stains EVERYTHING), this stuff is a more like a cream. The tip is the same as a bottle of wood glue, so it's easy to apply and smear around bald spots. It even smells nice (like grape bubblegum). A little goes a long way, so I felt like it was at least a good value for the money. I just wish it worked! For anyone interested - what DID work for me was pinless peepers. Until I found the peepers, I had tried everything to stop the feather picking. I treated them for anything medical that might have been the cause (worms, lice, etc.). I upped the protein in their diet. I gave them more space, more free-range time, and cleaned daily. I isolated the offender (no luck). Blu-Kote is awesome for wounds, but turned out to be useless for feather picking. Rooster Booster was a total fail. But those peepers are AWESOME. The feather pulling stopped IMMEDIATELY in all five chickens. It took about a month, but everyone's feathers eventually started coming back in - even on the crazy one. Maybe Rooster Booster will work for you, but it not then try the peepers. Just FYI for anyone having the same problems I did.
